Calcio storico fiorentino 2025

This year, I travelled to Florence to photograph the 2025 Calcio Storico semi-finals. One of the most intense and unique combat sports in the world.

Played in Piazza Santa Croce, this centuries-old tradition blends Rugby, MMA, and Quidditch. I shot the event mostly on 35mm film to capture its gritty, timeless energy in an authentic way.

Before the matches begin, the city comes alive with a historic parade through the streets. Complete with drummers, flag bearers, and costumed participants representing Florence’s four historic neighbourhoods.

The atmosphere is charged with pride and anticipation, echoing centuries of tradition dating back to the 16th century. Below is a selection of images from that unforgettable day.
